
John Cann born c1800 in England, married Mary Ashton, born c1805, on 24th October, 1823 in Hartland, Devon.
They had four children. John W. born in 1824 in England; Samuel S. born c1833 in Hope Township, Ontario; Henry born c1834 in Hope Township, and Thomas William born c1838 also in Hope Township.
On January 24, 1846, John married Hannah Wilson, born c1828 in Yorkshire, England. They had ten children. Mary Ann born in Hope Township in 1847; Susan Elizabeth born in 1850; William Henry born in 1852; Emmaline in 1854; Samuel born in 1856; Catherine Louise born in 1858; George Alfred born April 12, 1861; Frederich born in 1863; Clara born in 1867 and Lucille born in 1869.
George Alfred married Mary Jones, born 1864 in Ontario. They had six children. Clara born in 1886; Lillian born in 1888; Mary Emmaline born in 1889; William Henry born in 1894; Lawrence George born in 1897, and Florence born in 1900, all in Hope Township. At one period in his life, George worked as custodian at the old Port Hope hospital. He died August 24, 1940, and is buried in Port Hope Union Cemetery. His wife Mary Jones, died on January 25, 1906, and is buried in the Methodist Cemetery in Elizabethville.
Mary Emmaline married William Joseph Horner on October 28, 19ll. They had seven children, all raised on their farm in Campbellcroft. Harold George, Hazel Mina, Russell William, Gladys Mary, Orville Thomas, Donald James and Allan. Mary Emmaline died in 1966, and William Horner died in 1959. Both are buried in Port Hope Union Cemetery.
